1. Publika Food & Restaurant - Chica Bonita
We have reviewed a great many places and tried many foods here on this site. Still, we are on occasion pleased by locations that surprise us in so many ways.
You do not find many Mexican fusion restaurants in Kuala Lumpur outside of Taco Bell, but this was a nice break from tradition. The location is not only beautiful, decorated in Mexican imagery that puts you in the mood for their recipes, but the food is perfect too.
We had breaded chili Poppers, followed by Nachos Libre. We did start at the extreme end with the spices on these two but were not upset with our decision. The Poppers tasted amazing, and while the nachos were not a new experience, you did get a lot on your plate to make up for that.
When we entered the location, the people were friendly and helped us out when we were unsure of what to order. Despite the location being busy, we never felt hurried or like we were unwelcome.
When it came to the main meal, I had the Carne Burrito and my wife enjoyed tasting the Fish Tacos. We threw in a few cocktails too, which made the night that much more special. We stayed a little later than expected, talking and enjoying the drinks, but the servers never bothered us until it came time for the place to close.
When we had to pay, we expected to empty our wallets, but that was not the case. The prices were very fair considering how good the food was. We want to return here in the future to enjoy more of the menu options.

2. Publika Food & Restaurant - Nippori
This lovely small Japanese cafe felt very simple and tasteful when we first entered. It uses minimalist decor, and the whole place avoided overwhelming us with visuals or music. With so many other places to choose from, many of which throw their theme down your throat, this felt like a breath of fresh air.
When we sat down, the waiting staff ensured we were comfortable and made sure we had the correct expectations when it came to the food. They called out the fact they have no pork on the menu, but the rest of the options more than made up for this, and I never felt like anything was missing.
Both I and my partner ordered the Unagi Hitsumabushi Set as well as several side dishes. They came to us quite fast, and then, something very strange happened…
After about fifteen minutes, my wife mentioned that neither of us had spoken in that long. During the meal, we glanced at one another and smiled, but both of us were enjoying the food too much to want to say anything. It felt like a magical moment where we were both in touch with one another, and the great food acted as a catalyst as we were enjoying it so much.
After the mains, I had a Strawberry Panna Cotta, while my partner had the Banana Chocolate Parfait. These were both also good, though not “stop talking to one another and enjoy” delicious. So, we started our discussion once more.
In all, a very good place to spend a quiet dinner, whether you mean to or not.

3. Publika Food & Restaurant - Positano Risto
In the many locations we have reviewed, few Italian restaurants have appeared. Lucky for us, Publika has graced us with the “boot of Europe.”
The location is an open-air venue, allowing us to enjoy the fresh and natural light of the evening. As the sun went down, the lights were not overbearing and lit the place in beautiful tones for evening diners.
We noticed the Super Supreme Calzone was the signature dish. We could not avoid it, so we picked it up.
Instead of the traditional semi-circle Calzone, they wrapped this pizza from the edges toward the center. This created many smaller calzone-style wraps, with an open center. They filled this open area with parmesan, giving it a strong and delicious flavor.
With a mix of different meats and cheeses, this place filled us up and we ended up satisfied before the end of the evening came upon us.

4. Publika Food & Restaurant - Christine's Bakery
With many great things to do and good places to eat in Kuala Lumpur, sometimes you want to slow down and put some carbs in your face. This is the place to do it.
Christine’s Bakery sounds like it only has bread-based food, and while it does have a great range, it also features other options. You can pick up not only bagels, but pasta, pizza, and all-day breakfasts here.
I came here looking for whatever was closest to an “English Breakfast”, and Christine’s All-Day Breakfast hits the spot. As with all non-UK attempts, there were plenty of substitutions, though nothing was a bad choice. It replicated the offerings of English-style beige food but added enough spices to make it something special instead.
At the same time, my partner picked up a Crustacean Bagel. We thought this would be a small offering, what with the delicacy of crab on the menu. We were wrong, as it was so full to bursting with fillings she had to take half home to finish it.
Behind the counter, we met a very friendly crew who were happy to pause while we decided between all the great things they sold. We also got recommendations for things to try the next time we are in. You can always tell that somewhere believes in its food when the waiting staff give you specifics for future visits.
This place is worth your time. Pop in for lunch one midday.

5. Publika Food & Restaurant - JIBRIL
I love fried chicken. It is a favorite of mine, but when I heard Jibril has “triple-fried chicken”, I was expecting something dry and tasteless. I was wrong.
The Salted Egg Butter Chicken here comes with a wonderful batter that adds to the full flavor of the chicken. It is then enhanced by the sauce alongside.
This was only the start of our meal. Jibril is a perfect experience we would return to without a second thought.

6. Publika Food & Restaurant - Senya
Just when I thought I had seen every great Japanese restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, they drag me back in. This Publika restaurant has some great choices and does not skimp on ingredients.
Travelers would do well to try out the Japanese Pork Belly Rice bowl, but we also had Chicken Karaage with Yuzupon Oroshi, and we did not regret it. The chicken had perfect seasoning, and it was a good choice in what was a sea of options.

7. Publika Food & Restaurant - Shell Out®
Of all the restaurants in Malaysia I’ve tried, this is the first one with an “®” in its name. It felt a little tacky, but it turns out that did not extend to the taste of the food.
I was not accustomed to Louisiana-style food, but as luck would have it our server was very used to explaining what was good to customers. She helped us pick out the Fried Platter, which has a little of everything. The Prawn Pop Corn was our favorite, and alongside some of the restaurant’s sauces went down a treat.
It might be the best restaurant in Publika if you want a taste of Western food.

8. Publika Food & Restaurant - Thai Tuk Tuk
Speaking of the best food in Publika, if not the rest of Malaysia, Thai Tuk Tuk makes a good case for competing.
If you want some authentic, well-made Thai food, this is the place to go. The only disagreement we had with the location was how busy it was, but I suppose that says something about how much people love it.

9. Publika Food & Restaurant - The Social
This cozy bar environment was a wonderful place to come to as our evening winded down and we wanted some late-night snacks. Together we got a few pizzas, a platter, and some drinks. It turns out this is where this location shines.
We have tried many different places around Malaysia for a good night out, but we did not expect something as decadent as this.
The food was filling, while not losing out on flavor and the service staff was attentive, always meeting our needs. I would say their willingness to accommodate a group of too-loud friends made them shine above everyone else.

10. Publika Food & Restaurant - Coffee Stain
If you are looking to forgo traditional Malaysian food and instead focus on a small treat in a cafe, you could do a lot worse than Coffee Stain. It felt like a great place to either work in silence by yourself or do what we did, which is chat with your peers at a high volume.
The coffee was flavorful, unburned, and the perfect mixture of earthy and sweet. Better than the Siren logo place.

11. Publika Food & Restaurant - Fin
The unique selling point of this Malaysia cuisine restaurant is its focus on healthy food. This is not a common goal in any location in Kuala Lumpur, so it was nice to see.
We chose a “build your own” bowl. It allowed us to pick a soup, a meat (or vegetarian option), a side, and a sauce. After that, we could add any toppings or extras we wanted.
I chose a salmon bowl with noodles. Though, instead of picking a soup I asked them to choose for me. They know their stuff, as what came to me was to die for.
Go back here if you enjoy “mad gains” at the gym, if you love to run, or if you just like good food.

12. Publika Food & Restaurant - Tonkatsu by Ma Maison
Surprising no one, Tonkatsu specializes ins Tonkatsu. Despite so many great restaurants existing in the area, nobody else has been quite as blunt.
By only focusing on one thing, this location has managed to iterate on perfection. Their options may be a little more limited, but what they do have they prepare with great knowledge and experience.
We would recommend the Rosu Katsu set, as the meat almost fell apart in our mouths because they cooked it so well. Do not skip out on this place.

13. Publika Food & Restaurant - I Love Yoo!
While other great foods exist in the region, there is always something calming about something as simple as Yoo Tiao.
The signature Yoo Tiao here is the main reason to come here. These light pastries melt in the mouth alongside their porridge. If you want a light lunch, this is a great place for it, as their set menus offer many smaller options that complement their specialty baked good.

14. Publika Food & Restaurant - Délifrance
For a European all-day breakfast location that sells many pastries, this cafe is very large. They ended up using the full area, though, as many people wanted to try what was on offer as though there were not a million more restaurants around.
As a big fan of French Onion Soup, I gave it a go. I had worries they were going to forget anything but the broth and onions, but they had something good here. The cheese had melted into the broth, creating a lovely mix of textures.
I will definitely return for more. I would suggest I might get something else, but who am I kidding?

Our main concern about this location is how we were almost weighed down by so many options. How they have all these foods and keep each one tasting great is beyond me. There were more choices than at every other location we have been to but they somehow kept the quality sky-high.
I had the Salmon Teriyaki and Sashimi set, and it was a lot of food. I did not expect so many extras. It all tasted great, but arrive with a second stomach ready for the portion sizes.

Want pork? They have pork. S.Wine focuses on this one option and lifts it to greatness.
In all our searching, we have yet to find another location so obsessed with pork meals. Still, it means they know what they are doing, and we left after several courses of pork-based food very satisfied.

17. Publika Food & Restaurant - Salon Du Chocolat
I hope you like chocolate, as that is pretty much all you are getting in this location. With crepes, waffles, and a menu item labeled “Stuff in a Cup”, I knew I was in for a treat.
I had their Chocolate Taster board, giving me three “shots” of molten chocolate. Every single one proved they had a great chocolate supplier, as they tasted exquisite. I also had the Chocolamour, a mix of ice cream and their signature chocolate, which felt decadent.
I will return here with my friends. They need to experience it.

It did feel a little like this restaurant did not know if it wanted to make a coffee shop or a food stop. Lucky for all of us, they do great at both.
Their signature coffee is divine, while their food is well-cooked and has a great flavor to it that you will return for.

From the outside, it was clear this was a location for the most opulent individuals. We could splash out, so I took my wife, and we were very impressed.
I can only give my compliments to the chefs here. The sushi was both fast and perfect in its construction, and the ingredients were well-chosen. Every bite was another tiny joy I wanted to continue forever.

Maison Des Pains is a little taste of French bakeries and brings with it the sights and sounds of European elegance.
The baked goods themselves are all delicate, sweet, or savory delights. Perfect for a small lunchtime treat. We recommend the Baguette De Fromage for a mid-afternoon snack if you can sneak it into work.

21. Publika Food & Restaurant - Chin Swee Vegeciting
As a vegetarian-focused location, I was unsure of what to expect from Chin Swee Vegeciting. Turns out I should have expected only the best.
They have a wide range of soups, noodles, rice dishes, and many other options to pick from. None of the ones we tried were anything less than filling and wholesome. The flavors were also spiced in a way that made our mouths water with every bite.
It does not matter if you eat meat or not. Try it out.

I have a soft spot for Wagyu, despite its high price point, so I had to spoil myself here. It turns out there was nothing to complain about by the time I finished, either.
We both had the 500g platter, and it was a great option for us to cook and enjoy ourselves. The dipping sauce it came with was well-chosen, and the whole thing had us tempted to order more before we cut ourselves off. The location is perfect for Wagyu fans or those who want to try it out.

It was good to see another Japanese restaurant. Other locations did not have this many in such a small area, and as a Japanese food fan, it made me very happy.
We had the Sashimi to Gyuniku Kimuchi Itame set, which we agreed was a good choice by the end. Besides some great mains, it came with a miso that tasted fresh and homemade.
The staff were also friendly, engaging in polite small-talk when waiting for a card machine to work, and allowing us time to choose our meal in peace. Another excellent option on any night out.

I will come out of the gate and say this place would be my choice for taking my family out for dinner if I brought them to Kuala Lumpur. The chefs here know what they are doing, and they prepare the steaks in a way I can only describe as heavenly.
They also give you many options on the cut, the condiments, and many other things here. I was a huge fan of the mustard choices too. They had French mustard here, but that was the mustard of the day, so you may receive a different one when you visit.

More Japanese food! Someone loved me when they put together this list of places to visit.
We sat down at the bar area and were delighted to watch our food prepared ahead of us. After ordering various types of meat, we could see the chefs cut, marinate, and cook each piece. It was wonderful to know how it all comes together and made every delicious bite that much more satisfying.

I came here for a breakfast and was so happy with what I found. Along with some lovingly-chosen decor, the owners know how to put together a plate of food which is a great start to the morning.
I had the Good Morning, Sunshine breakfast. This was a lovely mix of different fried foods, along with some unique additions. The baked beans were the low point, but more than made up for by some great Omega Onsen eggs and streaky bacon.
I came back the next morning.

The largest Starbucks Reserve store in Malaysia deserves a lot of pomp and circumstance, more than this article could provide.
This whole location is a grand celebration of the idea of what coffee is, and a fantastic place to spend your time. We tried a few of their more unique coffees here, and while I am not usually a big coffee drinker it surprised me how much I enjoyed them.

We had a very relaxing time here waiting for our food. The decor is the right colors to promote an almost meditative atmosphere, so when our food came I was ready to collapse in a puddle of calm.
As for the food, it was all good. I had Dad’s Curry Laksa, and the sauce made some otherwise good proteins into a delicious crescendo of delight in my mouth. Worth a try if you get a chance.

I do not think I will ever get bored of more Japanese food.
While this is a casual location, we enjoyed the relative quiet of the ambiance and the friendly staff. Our orders came to us fast, and the staff left us alone for the most part while we enjoyed our very good food.
I chose a Katsu Curry, and both the sauce and rice uplifted the dish to greatness. I felt it could have done with some extra meat, but the rest was good enough to make up for it.
I hear they do cooking demonstrations here. Sadly we did not see one, but the chefs seemed to enjoy their job, and it would be great to see them interact with a captive audience.

30. Publika Food & Restaurant - Rokunana Washu Bar
This place prides itself on its fresh ingredients, and it deserves that pride. When we were going past the cooking area, we saw the chef creating many meals from scratch fast and without fuss. We even saw him grind wasabi, which impressed my wife to no end.
This place had many impressive delicacies, and we could only try some. We would recommend the fresh Oysters, as well as the Shirako. Although I did not share the details of what that was with my wife until we had both eaten some.
