Dou Dou Bake

Since 2016, there’s been a concerted effort to bring back traditional Malaysian cakes called kuih. These small rice flour desserts and snacks are perfect for tea time, and Millennials (and those younger than them) are quickly falling in love with baked goods!

While kuih are all good and that, sometimes, you just need a little more to satisfy your sweet tooth. And for that, you need to go to Dou Dou Bake.

Dou Dou Bake is a bakery cafe that just opened in 2020, but it’s quickly taking Malaysia by storm. Wondering what baked goods they have in store for you? Read on to find out!

Where Can You Find Dou Dou Bake?

As you might’ve gathered from the title of this article, Dou Dou Bake is located in the Klang Valley. But where exactly?

You’ll find this bakery cafe in Petaling Jaya on 38 Jalan SS 4C/5, on a quiet corner in the neighborhood of Taman Rasa Sayang. They’re open every day of the week except for the last Wednesday of every month, so you’ll be able to treat yourself almost anytime you want!

What Makes Dou Dou Bake so Special?

Dou Dou Bake

Dou Dou Bake isn’t like any other bakery. What makes them so special is the fact that their pastries are made with their levain/sourdough starter.

Anybody who bakes knows that sourdough starters are looked after with great detail and love. And it’s no exception at Dou Dou Bake. Here, they feed the culture 3 times a day and carefully monitor its condition.

As a result of this meticulous care and work, you get some of the most extraordinary desserts you’ll ever com

What Should You Try at Dou Dou Bake Menu?

Dou Dou Bake

Now that you know what makes Dou Dou Bake so unique, you might be wondering what exactly they have on their menu. Here are some of the things you must try when you visit!

Tiramisu Cake

Above all else, you need to try the tiramisu cake at Dou Dou Bake. If you could only buy one thing at this bakery cafe, then hands down, this is what you need to get!

It’s the best tiramisu cake we’ve ever eaten in Malaysia, and that’s saying a lot! It has a rich alcoholic aroma, but it’s not overpowering. The signature coffee taste that tiramisu cakes have still comes through, which makes it taste so very authentic!

Every bite you take will be like you’re tasting a bit of Italian heaven.

Sourdough Croissant

The croissant is a baked good that’s synonymous with France. While it first started off as an Austrian treat called kipferl or hornchen, it either hit France in 1770 thanks to Empress Maria Theresa or in the 19th century thanks to some Austrian bakers opening up shop in Paris.

In any case, we won’t bore you with the details. Basically, croissants because a national treasure in France, and the recipe’s been pretty much the same since then.

But remember how we said that Dou Dou Bake uses sourdough starter in their pastries? They even use it in their croissant!

You might think it sounds weird, but it’s actually quite tasty. But don’t just take our word for it; you have to give it a try when visiting!

Drinks

If you like to enjoy a drink with your baked goods, then you’ll be pleased to know that Dou Dou Bake has some great choices, some of which will get you your daily injection of caffeine!

On their drinks menu, you’ll find:

  • Black coffee
  • White coffee
  • Oat latte
  • Hot chocolate
  • Cold brew tea
  • Blueberry pu-erh kombucha
  • Orange cold brew

If you need something a bit stronger, they also have a great selection of natural wine! They’ve curated wines that don’t have additional sulfur and are spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeast.

Bring It Home With You

Not only can you bring pastries home, but you can also lug back some other goodies! For example, you can pick up glass servers, flower drippers, and paper filters for brewing cups of java at home.

There are also some great nut, almond, and peanut butters on offer, as well as milk and dark chocolate bars to munch on.

You can also pick up non-edible stuff too! Choose from hand soaps, analog camera films, tote bags, and cute patches.

A Feast for Your Eyes

Dou Dou Bake

Dou Dou Bake won’t just satisfy your tastebuds. Your eyes will have a feast too!

The bakery cafe is built with a simple and modern look that’s bold. Not only that, but there’s a beautifully arranged garden just outside as well. So you’ll get to take in the peaceful sights while you sit and enjoy your food and drink.

For those of you who are huge on Instagram, you can trust that this bakery is very Instagrammable. So should it be a surprise that there are always super long queues here?

Many Millennials don’t just go to Dou Dou Bake for the pastries. They also go for the wonderful IG photo opportunities!
